Royal Mail Strikes: Complete Dates for 2022

The ever-escalating row over pay for postal workers continues with more strikes planned for December 2022.

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) formally notified Royal Mail of the December strikes and confirmed six new strike dates for 2022.

“We’ll be doing what we can to keep services running, but we are sorry this planned strike action is likely to cause you some disruption” - announced a spokesperson for Royal Mail.

Official dates of the Royal Mail strike

Strikes are formally planned for the following dates:

  • Friday 9th December 2022
  • Sunday 11th December 2022
  • Wednesday 14th December 2022
  • Thursday 15th December 2022
  • Friday 23th December 2022
  • Saturday 24th December 2022

While only the above dates are listed as 'official,' there may be other disruptions across the nation.

Why are they striking?

In short, pay and working conditions. According to the Communications Workers Union, workers have been denied mandatory raises in pay and the working conditions have gotten worse.

One postal worker claimed that she has been working, on average, two hours more per day than she did last year, for no extra pay. The strikes hope to trigger fair pay and working conditions for all Royal Mail employees.

How will strikes impact Deliveries and Christmas Post?

"Major disruptions" to deliveries are likely, according to Royal Mail on the days of the planned strikes. Customers waiting for deliveries and post should be aware that they will unlikely receive anything on strike days.

No statement on the effect of Christmas post has yet been announced, though delays are more than likely.
